All The World Is All That I Am….

Yesterday I talked about being placed in that “fat bubble” where no one sees anything other than the padding that makes up one tiny part of me.  It got me thinking about these definitions that get placed on us and how sometimes we let others define who we are.  Yes, even the strongest of us.  So today, I want to start thinking about all of the thngs that I actually am…words and phrases that *I* would use to describe myself.  I’m taking back ownership of my power these days and this is just one exercise that can only help more than anything else.

So without further adieu, I bring you…definitions of Hilly!

hilly

I am…

…a fantastic smirk and a good hair day
…the owner of beautiful eyes and a beautiful smile
…fat, and I own it.
…spunky, snarky and sometimes even snatchy
…loving, caring and selfless
…smart, witty and all around funny
…an excellent speller and grammarer (*whistles*)
…the owner of a broken heart
…the owner of a open and accepting heart
…the first person you can call in a crisis
…spiritual and love my God
…confused, conflicted and constantly struggling
…strong, brave and willing to face anything
…weak, scared and able to admit when I want to fall down
…a good friend, a loyal friend and an all around kick-ass friend
…lonely but hopeful
…loved

I could find more but I think that’s enough for today.   It’s harder to find the awesome in myself than it is to find the bad and yet, I remain happy that I’ve done this today.  So please, what about you?   What are you?  Who are you?  And even more importantly, is it hard for you to look for the good?

Me

Kudos to you for taking back your power and focusing on the positive!

I totally have a harder time finding the good than the bad. I think it’s just human nature.

Awesome list–and kudos to you for taking the time to do it. I think we’d all feel better about ourselves if we did something similar more often!
For me it’s not so much that I think about the bad over the good, I just don’t often think about me in general. Which is pretty much no good either.

That’s a fantastic list. We would all be better off if we sat down to make a list like that every once in awhile.

And though I didn’t get a chance to talk to you at the Olive Garden mom blogger thing, I can attest to the beautiful eyes, beautiful smile and fantastic smirk, all things I noticed from across the room!

It’s not hard for me to look for the good, but it’s hard for me to say the good out loud to most people. Only people really close to me know the things I like about myself.

    How weird is that?

I am… someone who is not afraid of change.

    Did you change your hair?

I agree about all your awesome points. As for my own, normally I feel like a badass, but six months into this pregnancy and gaining 30 pounds so far has put a damper on that. Lately I just feel huge and bloated and more lame-ass than ever.

    I am … impressed. ;)

I don’t have a hard time finding the good. I just have a hard time *believing* in it enough to do something with it.

    I love your list.

I am not good at seeing the good in myself, and when people point out my good stuff, I tend to discount it immediately.

I think I’ll make my own list. You have inspired me!

I have days in which looking for (and finding) the good are easy. And I have days where I see only my faults and shortcomings.

But you’re right — we really should be doing a better job of finding the good in ourselves. It’s certainly less stressful…

I think beauty entails taking all that you are and owning it. Today, you’re doing a pretty damn good job. Too bad we can’t bottle it up and save it for the less than ideal days!

It is hard to look at the good in us, isn’t it? I struggle with that too. This is an inspiring post!

  19. Sarah Says:

It’s hard to see the good things in myself. Lately all I can find are the short comings and whatnot.

Maybe I’ll have to do a post like this just to remind myself.

And I totally love your hair all wavy/curly in that picture. It’s vury purdy!

  20. TMWW Says:

I have completely forgotten the woman that I once was. Now I am just mom, the bag lady. I own nothing except that I spend way too much time on the computer and I’m about 80 pounds overweight. I rarely have time to even think about the good in myself when there are so many telling me how fucked up I am each day. As Julia Roberts said in Pretty Woman – “It’s easier to believe the bad stuff.”

You are rocking the curls! I’m taking Britt’s list shopping this weekend and trying to resurrect my own curls because they are pretty sad right now!

I have a very hard time finding the good lately, which means I probably need to do a post like this. All I can see lately are my failures.

    Love your list,
I’ve always liked ‘ME’, even when people around me pointed out faults and short comings. I also used to say that I was the nicest person I know.

Well, I AM NOT………….so I’ve stopped saying that!

50 yrs does bring on a whole new perspective on EVERYTHING, and I am enjoying the ride, even though I am scaring a lot of people along the way!

Oh, and I have the cutest feet and a killer sense of humor!

    The End!

    ps………thanks for asking

Great post! And don’t forget, you’re also open, fantastic and hilarious. I love your sense of humor.

I have been doing a good job of finding the good lately. But I’ve also been honest. I know I am fun, caring, and thoughtful, but also, that I am tired, worn out and a bit too cranky sometimes. I am dedicated and hard working, but also frustrated. I am anxious and busy. Ever searching for relaxation… ;)

Had you asked these questions a year ago I would not have been able to answer the way I am about to:

    I am Jules:

    - early 30’s (don’t know what generation of the alphabet that puts me in)
    - mother of four
    - wife of one
    - animal lover
    - analyst
    - lazy
    - extremely friendly
    - humourous at the least
    - horse mad
    - freedom seeker
    - lover
    - the best friend you could have
    - down on myself
    - my own worst enemy
    - positive (or is that just what I like to think)
    - extremely caring and emotional

I am sexual, sexy, dark, erotic, peaceful, angry, light, musical, soulful, facetious, silly, I am a bit of it all.
