Snackie Sunday #107: You can’t make an omelette…

Hey Snackie fans, this is not Hilly… this is her BFF, Dave2 from Blogography! For reasons that I can’t even begin to fathom, The Queen of the PRB has entrusted me to post for her today while she is tearing across this great nation at ludicrous speed. This is probably a good thing, because it’s pretty tough to talk your way out of a ticket if the officer notices that you were not only speeding, but updating your blog on your mobile phone while driving as well.

Anydoodle, since today is Easter Sunday I thought I’d try to come up with something that reflects the true spirit of the holiday. Something that will harken back to a simpler time when holy occasions like this weren’t all commercialized and exploited. Something thought-provoking and insightful that will challenge people to set aside their negativity and help make this world a better place for all mankind. But most importantly, something with eggs in it.

So here we go with a very special edition of…..

It is a special EASTER edition of Snackie Sunday!

WHAT’S YOUR FAVORITE WAY TO EAT AN EGG?
(Assuming you are not highly allergic to eggs and won’t die from consuming one)

The Easter Bunny likes to boil everything, yet there are so many other great ways to cook an egg that it can be kinda tough to choose a favorite! But Snackie Sunday is nothing if not challenging, so dig down deep in your soul and pick your preferred preparation, won’t you?

Incredible, edible eggs!

As for me? My favorite way of eating an egg is when it’s baked into a chocolate cake!

DAVETOON: Lil Dave and Bad Monkey eating chocolate cake!

Because chocolate cake tastes totally awesome… especially if it’s Betty Crocker, because there’s PUDDING in the mix! Yes, PUDDING, bitches!

I also like a good fried egg sandwich. Where the bread is toasted just perfectly so it’s crusty enough to keep the egg from soaking through, but not so crusty that it scrapes your mouth all up when you eat it. Where the egg yolk is a little bit runny, but not so undercooked that you get salmonella poisoning and die. Where it’s got quality freshly-shredded cheddar cheese on it, not the cheap-ass bargain-bin $1.99-a-bag pre-shredded stuff that doesn’t melt even if you take a blow-torch to it. Where it has just a dash of freshly-ground pepper and a light spread of mayonnaise to add flavor, but never ketchup which has no business being on a fried egg sandwich… ever. Yeah, I wouldn’t mind eating an egg in a deliciously satisfying fried egg sandwich either.

But mostly I’d rather have the chocolate cake. Mostly.

Wishing Mah Hilly-Sue A Safe Trip Kisses,
Dave2

In Memphis we made a dish called Cordelia’s Benedict, where it was put together: English Muffin, pulled pork BBQ, poached egg, and then spicy chipolte hollendaise sauce! I guess we’ll put BBQ on anything in Memphis!

I love eggs! I usually order them scrambled, but I really love a good omelette with lots of veggies (and maybe a little ham & cheese). And if I’m somewhere tex-mexy…migas! Migas rock!

I like my eggs over-easy with the yolk runny enough to dip toast in. I eat the entire white rim of the egg first trying to leave the yolk in tact. If I’m really careful I can peel the top off the yolk and have a perfect little yolk sun for dipping. Yum!

I like my eggs scrambled…hard. No runny crap, no yolk. Sometimes with cheese. Or salsa.

You can make me an egg sammie any day of the week, your way is my way! I knew there was a reason that I liked you. :-) I also enjoy egg in the hole, sounds kinky, but I grew up with them. Mom would butter a piece of toast, use a small juice glass to cut a perfect center hole out of the WT Wonder Bread, then she would crack and fry and egg in the hole…flipping the bread/egg to toasty perfection. My favorite part was eating the bread circle.

Take a slice of really good multi-grain bread, preferably Milton’s, the one in the purple bag.

Cut out a small circle in the middle of the bread — I use a shot glass, but a champagne flute will do as well.

Put some butter in the pan, turn the heat to high, but the bread in the pan, and crack an egg right into the hole. Add salt and pepper to taste. Toast it for a while like that, then flip, turn off the heat, and wait 10 seconds before removing. Yolk should be runny, whites firm.

I’m reminded of the classic Bill Cosby routine:

And I said… and someone in my brain looked under chocolate cake and saw the ingredients:

Eggs! Eggs are in chocolate cake!

    And milk! Oh goody!

    And wheat! That’s nutrition!

    “What do you want?”
“Can I have some chocolate cake?”
    “Chocolate cake coming up.”

Sliced it for her and served it. “Now, you need something to drink with the chocolate cake, something breakfast… grapefruit juice!”

This is not your child! So I give the child a glass of grapefruit juice and chocolate cake — nutrition. Eggs, milk, and wheat in the chocolate cake. And… I didn’t have to cook.

I, myself, prefer a nice omlette. With provolone cheese, spinach, black olives and artichoke hearts.

Avitable… A man after my own heart!

Cissa… I’m such a cheese whore that I would take ALL THREE cheeses and add some Queso as well!

BlondFabulouss… As a vegetarian, I’d have to hold the pork, but your spicy chipolte hollendaise sauce intrigues me!

Robyn… But the yolk is the yummiest part! Sure it’s loaded with cholesterol and saturated fats, but they’re DELICIOUS cholesterol and saturated fats! Besides, current research is showing that cholesterol in egg yolks isn’t as bad for you as we once thought, and there’s tons of other nutritional stuff in there too! Have a yolk on me… heck, have two!

Rachel… So you can’t taste them? I take it you are not a fan of eggs. I think you just made the Easter Bunny cry a little bit!

Tracy… Tex-Mex is one of my most favorite style of food. I’d eat that for a dollar!

Kilax… EGGS ON PIZZA?!? That’s a new one on me. Though I have seen hard boiled eggs on everything from toast to salad, so I guess it’s not strange to find an egg anywhere!

Pixie… You are a far more talented eater than I am. I’m happy if I manage not to spill anything on myself!

Karen… LOVE Egg in the Hole… it’s like a fried egg sandwich, but miraculously prepared for funtime eating adventures!

Hilly-Sue… Aren’t you the cutest thing? It was my pleasure! The minute you solicited for a guest-poster on Twitter, I knew exactly what I wanted to do for this very special edition of Snackie Easter Sunday!!

Foo-Diddy… EGG IN DA’ HOLE! Yes, I agree… an awesome way to eat eggs!

Rattling… Sounds like the perfect preparation of Egg in The Hole to me! Except I sprinkle grated cheddar on mine. Unfortunately, I don’t think we get Milton’s here around these parts, but Oroweat makes a 7-Grain I love, so that would do the trick.

Shiny… See, chocolate cake is perfectly healthy anytime… even for breakfast! I do like your thinking when it comes to omelettes, sir… artichoke hearts indeed!

Faiqa… You know what would be good would be to substitute bharta for the hollandaise! Bharta FTW!!

Sybil… I must admit that poached is not my most favoritest way of eating eggs either. Something about the way they come out all slimy makes them a little less appealing to me. Eggs and toast were meant for each other, however.

It all depends on when and where and with what the eggs are being eaten.

That explanation could make this comment too long, so I’m just going to say scrambled with lots of cheese and green Tabasco sauce on them, sitting on a piece of sourdough toast.

But if there’s cake with pudding, I’ll eat that, too.

Karen… Ah yes… that would be California Benedict. As I am a vegetarian, it’s the only way to go!

Marty… I love green tabasco on a Mexican omelette. Ain’t nothin’ more tasty than that!

Laura… Well, in my case it would be veggie bacon, but yes indeed, you are correct!

Bombshell… If I couldn’t find a way to sneak in an “anydoodle” I was going to give up! Thanks for noticing though… whenever I guest-post, I try really hard to match the style of the blog’s author. The hardest part of guest-blogging for Hilly-Sue is coming up with an entry title. I worked really hard to think of something that sounded “Hilly” but it ain’t easy. Nobody comes up with entry titles better than she does, because there’s always a kind of cryptic smile in there somewhere… :-)

Sodapop… I love deviled eggs, but can never choke down that last bite of egg white once all the yolk has gone. I want chickens to make ROUND eggs that are mostly yolk… that should solve the problem!

Rattling… Oh yes! Depending on where you go, they have all kinds of names for it… Egg in the Hole… Chicken in the Basket (or Egg in the Basket if you’re watching the movie “V for Vendetta”)… One-Eyed Monster… Cowboy Breakfast… One-Eyed Jack… One-Eyed Suzy… Moon Egg Toast… Eggy in the Poke… Chicken in the Wheat… Stained Glass Toast… Sunshine Toasty…

I’m more of a fan of eggs as ingredients too, and for me cake is the ultimate use of the egg.

My wife loves me. A lot. My proof is the ‘breakfast sandwich maker’ she bought for me some years ago.

It is a toaster and an egg poacher all in one. You crack and egg, put in 1TBSP of water under it, put in a couple slices of bread and (optionally) some bacon or ham or sausage in there, and you press a button. It times the egg poach/friedness perfectly with the toast so that they’re both ready.

then you stick some butter on the toast, maybe some cheese and WHAM you have an awesome breakfast sandwich.

I had two (2) this morning.

You can make the eggs over easy, medium or hard depending on if you put 1, 1.5 or 2 TBSP of water in.

Floating Princess… I too love a good Egg Salad Sandwich… especially if you sneak in a few potato chips on top to add some crunch to it!

Whall… Obviously this device was created by some kind of breakfast genius. I wonder if it’s any relation to the hot dog cooker that steams the buns at the same time?

Sarah… Zucchini relish? I’ve never even heard of that. I can’t even fathom what that tastes like… pickles maybe?

TMWW… Cheesecake is deliciously egg-free, I think. I suppose you could stick one in there for the fun of it though.

Poppy… No runny yolks then? I don’t like it when the yolks are runny runny… but a little runny is good.
