November 16th, 2009
Wow, what an amazing weekend I had! Nothing major happened and it’s not as if the course of one event changed who I am forever (or did it?) however, I had such an amazing time out with friends, just letting go and remembering to love the things around me rather than to find fault in them. It all started on Friday when I tried to take a bunch of different pictures of myself for this new gig I have coming up (shhhh, it’s secret for now) and getting completely frustrated over the blur factor of my point and shoot camera. I ended up speaking to a friend of mine (non blog-related) who may be able to get me a free Nikon Coolpix camera next week so I have my fingers crossed on that one! If it doesn’t happen, it doesn’t happen but hey, Christmas is coming, riiiight?
Anyway, I tooled around Friday afternoon running errands after my paycheck direct deposit *finally* hit the bank around noon. After that, I spent an afternoon on Avitable’s back porch, laughing and talking with Adam, Britt and Mew. It was nice to just sit and talk to people after having been sick for so long even though I did have to cut it short because I started hacking up my lungs! In fact, I had to cancel my dinner plans with Britt and a bunch of other people because of my stupid PorkChop Flu which, by the way, seems to be getting better finally.
One really interesting thing that happened in the midst of all of this is that the pharmacy tech at Walgreens asked me out on a date…again. You see, every time I go in there, he flirts me up and mentions just how much he’d like to hang out with me. Up until this weekend, I traditionally ignored it because hi, he works at Walgreens. Let me get one thing straight here…the fact that his working at Walgreens doesn’t bother me because it’s about the money at all. In fact, when I married Shawn he used to say “it’s just money” but towards the end of our marriage that money was all he cared about. So yeah, I’m not all about money but I am all about education and social smarts, etc. That being said, quite a few people on Twitter told me that I was being snotty and that I should give him a chance because who knows what his life is about. He may be working as a pharmacy tech while he goes to school to be a full fledged pharmacist. He may this or he may that. The gist is that he may have a story that I don’t know and allowing him to take me out on one measly date won’t kill me. So anyway, I went back into the pharmacy on Saturday morning and this time I told him yes. He’s going to call me this week and we’ll have a date next weekend. Look at me, all growing up and expanding my horizons!
Anyway, Saturday evening was also filled with win as I grabbed Mew and James then headed into Orlando for a Wii Fit party hosted by Britt and Brand About Town. You know what was amazing? Walking into a room filled with twenty-ish people and knowing two-thirds of them. After having lived in Southern California and not really having my very own posse of awesome, it is so nice to know so many people in the area who I genuinely like and am happy to see when I get the chance. In fact, I had a long talk with Leigh from Theme Park Mom about how I’m finally starting to love my life here in Orlando and how the people are what’s making it so great. Look, Florida is no California but I could throw a stone in any direction and have at least five people come together on any given day. When I first moved here, I was miserable and unhappy and couldn’t see what was right in front of me which is…amazing friends that invite me to amazing parties where we laugh, work out with Nintendo Wiis and all share moments of pure awesome with each other. So yes, I had a great time at the party and as if that wasn’t enough, we all got a free Wii Fit Plus AND a cute little Wii Fit warmup jacket! I mean, holy wow! How awesome is that? They gave us ALL a Wii Fit Plus, dammit!!!
Anydoodle, after the party, my crew (Mew, James, Mrs. Avitable and Carolina) all headed to Downtown Disney where we met Todd and Marc for dinner at our favorite sandwich place, The Earl of Sandwich. I mean seriously you guys…these are the best sandwiches in all of the kingdoms in all of the lands! We had a great time just laughing, talking and watching how Mew and her crew order about seven different sandwiches because they cannot decide which they like best. You know what I love about these people? The sandwich eating is an experience for which they are thankful, which means they enjoy the hell out of the little things that we all take for granted. That makes my heart all warm and stuff. After eating, Amy and Carolina went home and the rest of us went out about Downtown Disney to take pictures and play like ten year old children. Todd, Marc and I all played in the dancing water fountains, running around like little kids, getting soaked, giggling and loving every damned minute of it. It was so nice to just be that carefree and not have anyone judging me for it. It was at that moment that I realized that my marriage destroyed a fuckton of my whimsy and I am so glad to have it back. I love whimsical people and I didn’t really marry one, which makes no damned sense! Anydoodle, after playing in the water, Mew took lots and lots of pictures of us. The boys taught me how to do “Kirby hands” and I taught them how to do the “hayyyyyy” face. Good times were had by all and I simply cannot wait to run with that crowd again!
Sunday turned out to be just as awesome when we were surprised by the Orlando Food & Wine Festival when innocently going downtown for brunch. The Avitables and I had a great time tooling through all of the food and wine booths, using our little food tickets to taste such scrumptious delicacies as lamb kebabs, braised tenderloin, nitrogen infused ice cream, Bavarian wines, cupcakes and tons and tons of other things! Again, it was nice to get out of the house and do something outdoors amongst other people, the smell of grilled meat and the warm Orlando sun as music played softly in the background. Of course, let us not forget the fact that there were cupcakes there. Mmmm mmmm, sweet sweet cupcakes. Yanno, pause for the cause….no matter how many cupcakes I have tried in no matter how many cities, no cupcake has ever come close to being as good as Cupcake Royale in Seattle Washington. In fact, I’m about to beg someone to go get me some and Fed Ex them to me overnight. I’ll pay, of course!
Anyway…the most awesome thing to come out of the Food & Wine Festival? This…
The Sushi Popper! Yep, it is what you would think it is! You pour that soy sauce over the sushi inside the popper then stick the tube into the bottom of the popper and push the sushi up into your mouth! Amazing and delicious! In fact, I’m about to go eat that for lunch riiiight now!
As for today, I am finally able to have my Birthday Party/Dinner (only two weeks late). I had to cancel all of my gatherings due to being sick so yay, tonight we rock and we roll! But first, I’m headed out to see 2012 with a friend! And on that note, I’m spent. Recap blog posts are wayyyyy more work than just sitting here and dumping my feelings all over the page, sheesh!
Montague Kisses,
Me

1. I love that first picture of you.
2. A new gig? Can’t wait to hear about that.
3. I’m sad I couldn’t go to the Wii party, although given the amount of money I’m dropping on tires today, it’s probably a good thing. But I would have love to have tried yoga on the Wii Fit!
4. Yay for yes to Walgreens guy! A date is a date, honey. You just never know…

@Tudor Rose, I’ve been seriously getting my flirt on for about three weeks now. First there was the um, kissing with Clark Kent. Then there was this other dude who asked me out. Now pharmacy man and I may or may not be eyeballing yet another guy.
I love this part of being single. The newness and the excitement.

Pharmacy Techs actually are quite educated. They usually have to go to a community college to get certified to do the work. I’m not sure if they can get a BA or MA in it, like nurses can. So, maybe that will alleviate some of your worries.
When you said a guy at Walgreens asked you out, I thought you meant like, a cashier. Which I still wouldn’t knock because they may have a story.

@Lynda, most chain pharmacies only require you to have a high school diploma and a pulse to become a pharm tech. Our best tech walked in off the street 7 years ago and applied for the position and got it. Our newest tech is a 21 year old mom to a 4 year old who started off as a cashier in the main store and pulled a few shifts in the pharmacy now and then.
We have the choice of going for training at a tech school for some help with getting national certification, but neither the training for the national certification or the certification itself is needed for the job. State certification requires nothing more than a background check and 500 hours of training. I went to school for it, at a trade school located behind a supermarket attached to a local mall, a school that does the bulk of its advertising during episodes of Jerry Springer and Maury.
I’m halfway done paying a $6k student loan for 8 months of classes that have gotten me a whopping $10.25/hr for a shitty company.

@Crystal, huh, in Indiana it always seemed like the pharm techs were interned from one school or another. It seemed to take more training that what you described. Unless I’m thinking of some other position behind the pharmacy counter.
