The Perfect Pieces in the Purple Pond
Boyfriend peeing in a trough outside of a warehouse after having sex with his girlfriend. As he pees, the water in the trough turns purple. He asks his girlfriend if he’s really the only guy she’s slept with … and then 12 body parts begin floating to the surface.
Dr. Sweets has a session with Zack Addy in the mental hospital. Zack is still very much off his rocker. After their visit, Sweets’ security card won’t swipe and release the locked door. An attendent tells him that his ID card has probably expired and lets him out of the room manually.
Meanwhile, Brennan and Booth begin going over the (yuck) body parts piece by piece, literally. They are missing an essential part of the body … the head.
This episode introduces a new character, Wendell Bray. Brennan proudly states, “Wendell is my brightest scholarship student.”
The first thing they notice is that although the shoes look like they were designed for little kids, they were specially ordered overseas in an adult’s size 11.
Booth’s back is giving him quite a bit of discomfort. Enough that he lets Brennan drive the car. Brennan is miffed that Booth won’t let her fix his back. Additionally, they continue to carry on with their unspoken lust they have for each other.
Seriously, if these two don’t get a room and get on with it I am so done with this show.
Additionally, I’m finding increasingly difficult to continue to buy into Brennen’s innocent, naivete front. She is so clinical about anything sexual and she continues to embarrass others with her stark, dissociative questions or responses.
As it turns out Jared Addison (who had 12 pairs of these special sneakers lined up on his bookcase in his bedroom) was a cult favorite, published science fiction novelist with several mental issues. Brennen discovers that the picture on the jacket of the book he wrote is not that of the same person whose body parts lay on the table in the morgue … except for the head.
Mr. Addison was 25 (I may be wrong about this). Kelly Sutton (Addison’s girlfriend) was old enough to be his mother. Addison proposed to Ms. Sutton and she told Booth and Brennan that she was in love with Jared and was going to marry him.
Brennan and Booth also interviewed the son of Mr. Addison’s girlfriend as a possible suspect (he refused to give Mr. Addison his blessings to marry his mother).
They also interviewed Mr. Addison’s mother and discovered that she knew about Jared’s girlfriend and how old she was.
Brennen and Booth both felt that Zack and Jared Addison were both a little bit “out there” when it comes to all things geeky, so Hodgins went to Zack in the mental institution to ask for his help to find Jared Addison’s head. Hodgins gave him the file with all the crime scene stuff for him to look at and see if he will be able to help them find Mr. Addison’s head.
In the meantime, Brennan questions Wendall (her new assistant) if he’s ever had a sexual relationship with an older woman. She does this in her usual straight-faced, no emotion manner.
Wendell however interprets this as a come-on from Brennan goes to Angela to tell her that Brennan is hitting on him. Not so.
The last person interviewed for Mr. Addison’s murder is the publisher of Addison’s books. Tushman dropped Jared as a client in favor of the guy (just happens to be the same guy who posed for a picture so that it could be used to impersonate Jared on the back jacket cover on his book.
Apparently, Mr. Addision punched Tushman as a result of the news that he’d been dropped. Giving Tushman motive to kill Jared.
(By the way, this show has a yuck factor of 10. I don’t care how many times I tell myself that it’s just a TeeVee show and that the dismembered body on the table isn’t real, my flip-flop stomach is not listening. Double eeeeeewwwww on this episode. There’s nothing like a close-up of a bloated, detached arm, with a hole it it the size of a football to go along with a snack in the evening.)
Out of nowhere, Zack appears in the office. He admits to escaping the mental institution. He tells everyone that he used Dr. Sweets ID card and they did not know he was gone. Everyone is ecstatic to see him. Except Dr. Sweets, of course. Zack also states that he knows where the head is. It all had to do with the number 12.
He had twelve shoes, twelve superheroes lined up on his shelf, twelve pairs of sneakers, even his belt hooks on the wall.
And in a photograph, taken by Addison’s mother of her garden, Zack notices that there are 12 pots with flowers. AND that means that the 13th body part, the head was somewhere in the garden.
Immediately they started digging under the fountain. And before you knew it, they found the head.
Very entertaining show this week. Never a dull moment with Temperance Brennan.
